There are some settings you may want to turn on/off to make playing Polymath better for your class. These can be accessed on the in-game control panel when playing a live game, or in your Settings in your Polymath account:

Here is a summary of what they do and how to use them

Setting What it does When to use it
Enable exploration of the classroom By default, your students will be able to roam around the classroom island using their Polymath avatars. Turning this setting off prevents students from being able to move around on the classroom island. You may want to turn off classroom exploration during classroom games (Vs. Teacher and Timed quiz) to keep students focused.
**Enable building in classrooms

(only available if you’ve allowed exploration of the classroom)** | As you and your students complete math questions, you’ll earn Polymath brain power. This brainpower can be used to trade for resources at the shop front on the classroom island that can be used to collaboratively build on your island. Students can also mine the island for natural resources like chopping down trees and collecting rocks. | Building out your classroom island can be a fun classroom activity, but also requires a little more coordination from the class.

We recommend keeping this off for your first few games of Polymath, and introducing it once you know your way around. It’s can also be helpful to introduce your students to Independent play before turning this on (independent play teaches them about brain power and how to collect and trade resources in their own island) | | Student islands | Having this on allows students to access their own independent islands (as well as the classroom island). | This needs to be enabled for independent play. When it is turned on students logging in will be automatically directed to the classroom island.

You may want to temporarily turn it off during collaborative classroom games (Vs. Teacher and Timed quiz) to keep students focused. |
